I have a question regarding my Vox Valvetronix XL 100 combo. First off, when the band gets together(me , my guitar teacher who plays drums when we jam, and his wife also on guitar) the volume is more than sufficient. The amp has 2 vox 12 inch speakers and absolutely roars. It's my first tube amp and im more than satisfied with it. We play Judas Priest, Sabbath, Cream stuff so far and its perfect. Vox made a great sounding heavy rock amp. I got the amp in October as a birthday gift from my wife. My previous amp was a crappy Randall half stack. I pawned the Randall head at a pawn shop when i got the Vox but I still have the Randall 4x12 cabinet. The only thing is, when I plug my Vox combo into the 4x12 cab it powers the cabinet but not the speakers that are in the combo. So instead of having a 3/4 stack , I only have a half. Again, the I'm more than satisfied with the Vox combo, and I just might get rid of the Randall cab. When we get together and jam I never take the cab with me, I only use it at home mainly because the combo stays on top of the cab. Just out of interest would there be any way that I can some kind of cable that would power both the speakers in the combo and the 4x12 at the same time?

Even the new VOX VT's do work like this! It's specified in the manual that by connecting an external speaker, the internal speaker is disconnected. I think it must have something to do with the internal impedance of the amp and therefore it can't be changed! And they also warn, that the external cab should not have anything else then 8 Ohm impedance. I understand your concern and it would be nice having 5 speakers working, but it doesn't make any big difference in tone. The biggest difference you'd gotten is going from 1x12 to 4x12! There the sound is wider and punchier. I'd suggest using the combo alone for home use and the combo connected to the cab for rehearsal with the band as this allows you to cut through better with your sound and it's a better monitor for yourself.

Thanks for the info Hornsbyskewes. My combo is actually a 2x12 not a single 1x12 though. I have looked at Vox's website, Musician's Friend, and a couple other places and I dont think Vox has the XL series in an amp head. The music store where I bought it has the regular Valvetronix series in an amp head but not the XL series that I know of. If they do come out with the XL series amp head that would be awesome. And if they did I might still get rid of the Randall 4x12 because the cab contains Randall Jaguar speakers, and get a cab that has Celestions. Everybody I know always tells me that Celestions are the best speakers, I'd probably get A Marshall 4x12. Again though this 2x12 does the job nicely, I love the sound, and my wife would be pissed if I started talking new amp time. (I've had Kustom, Marshall, Hiwatt, Hartke, and Randall none were tube amps though)

Ok, I have one extra Marshall 4x12 cab with matched set of Celestions what I can sell but as you live in States there is no point to haul it from Finland there.
