 Guitar/speaket magnets
« Thread Started on Nov 1, 2009, 8:10pm »

You may recall there was a discussion going on about transporting/storing guitars and speaker cabs, how the powerful magnets in the speakers can have an adverse effect on the guitar pickups. Dawk said some kind of shielding was possible but he wasn't 100% sure about it.

On Dawk's advice I did email Bill Lawrence, 10 days ago but no reply as yet. As soon as I hear something I'll post it.

I am playing the right notes . . . . but not necessarily in the right order!

this is this thread : http://dawkmods.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=AmpInfo&action=display&thread=842

up to you to continue here or in the other post.

as far as i know, my luthier told me that EMG pickups are known to not require body shielding because they already are.
i don't know for others ....
now, i am wondering if noawadays, back of cabs are shielded to prevent magnetic damage ...

about speaker/guitar magnet, i was also wondering what are the effect in a home studio with a Direct-to-Disk computer system.

what i know is to put away hard drives from speakers, and now, speaker from guitars, but what about guitar pickups from hard drives ???

is this only in the way : spekaer/pickups affect hard drives ?

also does CPU have any magnetic effect ???

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
DAWK SAYS:

I THINK COMPUTERS / HARD DRIVER ARE EVERY WELL,,, SHIELDED...

YES,,, YOU'RE RIGHT...

I WOULD KEEP ANY LOOSE HARD DRIVE AWAY FROM SPEAKERS...

Seems Bill Lawrence doesn't want to pass on any info regarding pickup/speaker magnets.

About 3 weeks since I emailed him and still no reply.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

YOU WILL,,, JUST HAVE TO TAKE MY WORD FOR IT THEN...

ALSO,,, I REMEMBER ''SEYMOUR DUNCAN'' DID A WRITE UP ON PICKUPS IN ''VINTAGE GUITAR'' MAGAZINE...

THAT WAS (3) OR (4) YEARS AGO...

MORE LATER..........

Will the shielding on a Lace sensor do any good?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

THOSE MAGNET ARE ''U'' SHAPED AND MADE OF CERMIC...

I WOULD STILL TRY TO KEEP THEM AWAY FROM THE SPEAKERS CABINETS TO BE
SAFE...
